Ferries to Norway
From Germany to Norway
Probably the most comfortable way to reach Norway is the direct route with Color Line from Kiel. Departure is at 14:00 each day, arriving in Oslo the following morning at 10:00.
Especially striking is the cruise-ship feel on board: alongside high-quality restaurants and hotel-standard cabins, there's even a swimming pool. The route can therefore also be booked as a 3-day mini-cruise.
Via Denmark to Norway
Most ferry routes to Norway depart from Denmark. The main ferry port is Hirtshals, at the very northern tip of the Jutland peninsula. From here, Color Line and Fjord Line sail several times daily to Kristiansand - also the fastest connection to Norway: the Fjord Line catamaran takes just 2 hours and 15 minutes.
From Hirtshals there are also daily departures to Larvik (3:45 h) and to Bergen (16:30 h), with Stavanger as a stopover (10:15 h).
The ferry operator DFDS also runs a daily direct connection from Copenhagen to Oslo. The route sails overnight and can also be booked as a 3-day mini-cruise.
Via Sweden to Norway
Travelling to Norway via Sweden is very flexible - and since the completion of the Öresund Bridge between Denmark and Sweden, it's even possible to get there without a ferry at all.
For the journey to Sweden there are two options: sailing directly from Kiel, Travemünde or Rostock (overnight crossings available too), or travelling via Denmark and the Öresund Bridge.
By ferry direct to Sweden
Via Denmark to Sweden
The fastest way from Germany to Sweden runs via the Öresund Bridge and a short ferry crossing.
From the west this is the Puttgarden-Rødby route (known as the Bird Flight Line), from the east the Rostock-Gedser route.
Alternatively, you can travel via Flensburg, the Danish island of Funen and the Great Belt Bridge - entirely overland, with no ferry at all.
Ferry from Sweden to Norway
One more route worth mentioning is Strömstad-Sandefjord, linking Sweden with Norway. If you're heading south into Norway from the Gothenburg area, this route saves you from having to drive all the way around the Oslofjord.
